It seems that Marvel Studios is going to bring a number of spaced-based blockbuster movies to the big screen. Several comic books have been launched in service of this -- Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos Rising; the Iron Man title has been given over to it as well.
The best of the bunch is Thanos Rising. Jason Aaron is the writer. I think he's doing the best work at Marvel now. The art, by Simone Bianchi, is fantastic; it captures the spaced-out Esalen '70s which is the world that birthed Thanos out of Jim Starlin's fecund brain.
Thanos Rising tells the story of how Thanos, growing up in the Utopia of Titan, one of Saturn's moons, got to be as demented as he is. In the first two issues that I've read so far the adolescent Thanos is a proto-Hannibal Lecter. You can see what I mean by taking a look below at the three scans from Thanos Rising #2:
