I mentioned last Saturday that the new Silver Surfer title by Dan Slott and Michael Allred reads like a Golden Age fable, an inversion of our current cataclysmic times when the planet warms and the oceans die and cultures are at war both within and without.
In Silver Surfer #7, as Dawn and the Surfer approach the end of the Universe, they come upon a lighthouse-like structure, which is actually a beacon of death for unwary voyagers.
Below you will find seven scans from Silver Surfer #7. I think this comic book is a showcase of graphic brilliance. I included a couple cuts off the soundtrack to The Rover (2014), another terrific post-apocalypse film. The first is Colin Stetson's "Groundswell," and the next is Matthias Loibner's "Crystal Waters." They establish an "at-the-edge-of-spacetime" mood.
There is a tremendous scene in The Rover where Robert Pattinson's character is sitting in a car the night before the big shootout listening to and singing along with the radio. The song that he is singing along with is completely out of place; it is Keri Hilson's "Pretty Girl Rock"; it is like Dawn Greenwood on the back of Silver Surfer's board as it flashes though deep space.
