After the failed attempt to access an ATM I made my way to the neighborhood supermarket. I thought a couple donuts would be the proper way to kick off New Year's Day. I needed eggs and bananas and a new ironing board cover. Susie the checker looked quizzically at the ironing board cover which as packaged looked like a small pillow. I said, "It's an ironing board cover."
"I wouldn't've figured that you have to iron," she said.
"It's not something I enjoy doing but I do it," I replied.
As I approached the entrance to my apartment building a raven, perched with his buddies on a limb in the tree above, barked at me like a dog. A new year and situation normal.
